The foundation of Barjols is due to the abundant availability of water, supplied by a natural a source as well as the rivers l'Argens, du Fauvery, l'Eau Salée et the stream des Écrevisses. Barjols has approximately 2500 inhabitants many of them being artist working in the old leather tanning factories. It is called the arts capital of the Var and has a charming old town.
