The picturesque village of Cotignac is located in the departement du Var (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Cotignac counts around 2300 inhabitants. Cotignac lies approximately 60 km to the North of the Mediterranean town of Toulon. The work on the church was finished in 1519 and it became a place of pilgrimage, offering a woman convent. On the other hand outside the village the Saint Jozef abbey. Cotignac lived its most glorious days in the 17th century, but suffered a lot from the wars and the French revolution. By 1900 the village of Cotignac was big in the olive cultivation and counted 220,000 olive-trees, producing 6,250,000 kilos of olives.
