La Verdiere has a permanent population of less then 1000 inhabitants on a surface of 6816 hectares. The history of La Verdire has intertwined for many centuries with the history of the castle. The French revolution brought along a large change for La Verdiere: a large proportion of property was sold as national property to a population.
