Les Arcs has a population of 5500 inhabitants on a surface area of 5500 hectares. It is located in the heart of the Haut Var, about 10 km from Draguigan and about 25 km from Frejus. Les Arcs used to be called Archos, from the word arc. This town in Provence later became Castrum de Arcubus or Chteau des Arcs. Les Arcs was ruled from the 12th to the 17th century by the Villeneuve family. Until 1612, les Arcs was a Baronage, but this changed in 1612 when Louis XIII decided to confer the title of Marquis to Arnaud de Villeneuve de Bouliers. Les Arcs today is a modern village, but as soon as you pass below the clock tower gateway of Les Arcs, you can will feel and see the medieval environment with its mixture of steep streets and old colourful buildings.
